Morro Bay Lions Club delivered materials to the Del Mar Elementary School with CLF Grant

The Morro Bay Lions Club presented $1,000 worth of materials to the Del Mar Elementary School. The materials are to be used in the new computer lab on the campus. The check was presented to principal, Michael Wood by Lions club president, Chuck Stoll, and California Lions Foundation director, Dave Hubbard. Mr. Stoll said the Morro Bay Lions were excited to receive the funds from the foundation through a “Back to School Program” established to help schools get students back on track after a year of online teaching.

After talking with Mr. Wood, it was decided there was a need to provide the students with “hands on” activities that were lacking during last year. Their new computer lab was the perfect place for this to happen. Students from all grades use the lab. The materials being provided by the Lions club were chosen to provide activities for all grades.

Foundation Director Hubbard said the grant was a special program to assist schools get bask on track. Normally, the foundation provides designated and matching grants to help Lions clubs financially in projects they might not otherwise be able to complete. They also provide disaster assistance grants to clubs in communities that are impacted by disaster. The Morro Bay Lions Club recently donated $3,000 to the foundation for assistance in communities affected by the fires of this summer. The foundation honored 3 Morro Bay Lions, Larry Rosen, Don Fischer, and Gail Hubbard, with their highest for of recognition for their efforts in Lions. The Morro Bay Lions was recently recognized by the Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce as the 2021 Nonprofit of the Year. The club was honored for programs including feeding the needy, car recycling for people in need of transportation, scholarships for graduating seniors at Morro Bay High School, the annual community Thanksgiving Dinnef, and financial assistance to other organizations in the community. The donation of teaching materials to Del Mar Elementary is just another example of their service.
